A Mother's Devoted Love For Her 50 Children

KUCHING, March 16 -
It is not easy even to raise an only child, but Norlina Alawi, 38, manages to be a devoted, loving mother to 50 children, including her own, with her patience and perseverance. Have seven children of their own aged between three and 18 years, Norlina and her husband, Roslan Zakaria, 44, an army major also have 43 adopted ones aged between three months and 16 years. Among them are orphans, abandoned ones as well as children out of wedlock while three are HIV positive.

She adopted these kids regardless of their race because she want to give them the chance to have a mother's love. To her, children are God's gift. According to Norlina, she look after all her children at home and spend at least RM50,000 on them monthly including medical care, education, basic religious knowledge, and hiring tuition teachers and taekwando trainers for them.

Norlina, is the founder and president of the Nurul Iman Welfare Association for Children of People with HIV/AIDS, Malaysia (Pernim), which was established in Kuala Lumpur in March 2004 to care for orphaned and abandoned children, as well as those with HIV/AIDS or whose parents had died from the disease. Three years ago, she set up the Pernim Shelter for these children where education is imphasised for their own future.
